Getting Started

Understand the model family before you use it.

Starting Index is a rules-based market leadership model family. Each month, it identifies focused groups of stocks showing strong relative momentum, publishes the target profiles, and preserves the research record behind the decision.

Core ideaFollow measured leadership, not headlines.

The goal is not to predict the future or react to every market headline. The goal is to provide a disciplined, repeatable process for seeing where strength is already showing up in the market.

01

What gets published

Each monthly update includes profile allocations, target weights, recent performance, comparison against the market, and supporting research artifacts. Subscribers can review Core, Balanced, and Growth in the browser, download reports, or use the order sheet to translate a selected profile into position sizes.

02

How to read it

Each profile shows the current group of stocks selected by the ranking process and the target weight for each position. A higher weight generally means the stock ranked more strongly within the current selection process.

03

How to judge it

The performance view shows how the Live Platform Record and model profiles have behaved compared with the market. Focus less on any single day and more on the longer pattern: total return, drawdowns, consistency, and behavior in different market environments.

04

What it is not

Starting Index is not a day-trading signal, news feed, guarantee of returns, or personalized investment plan. It is one research input in an investor's broader decision process.

Monthly workflowA simple review process.
  1. Read the latest monthly publication.
  2. Check the Current Stance to see whether the model is invested or defensive for the current window.
  3. Review the profile allocation and target weights that match the level of concentration you want to study.
  4. Compare recent model performance against the market.
  5. Check the evidence page for research context and known limits.
  6. Use the order sheet if you want help translating the allocation into trade sizes.
  7. Make your own decision based on your goals, risk tolerance, tax situation, and broader financial plan.

Starting Index provides research and model data. It does not know your full financial life, and it does not replace personalized advice from a qualified professional.

Portfolio mindsetRead the basket, not just the names.

The allocation is best read as a complete portfolio, not as a list of individual stock recommendations. The model's behavior comes from the full basket, the rebalance process, and the rules behind selection.

Keep in mind
  • The model is designed around a monthly cadence.
  • A defensive stance can point away from equity exposure and toward cash or a cash-like Treasury-bill alternative.
  • Past performance does not ensure future results.
  • Taxes, account type, cash settlement, and position sizing matter.
  • The best first step is understanding the process before deciding whether it fits your own approach.
